Find the pages to write next, and get a brief
Some gaps no link can fix: a search Google sends you with no post of its own, or a topic with no page covering it whole. Write next lists those pages in the order worth writing them. On Studio and Agency, each comes with a brief to write from, and you can hold the links that should point at the new page until it is live.
Steps
Open Write next
Open Write next in the sidebar. It lists the pages your site is missing, the one kind of finding a link cannot fix, numbered in the order to write them. The figure on the right of each card is the estimate the order comes from; pages you have reserved go to the bottom.
Under each card, IT WOULD BE LINKED FROM DAY ONE names the posts of yours that would link to the new page.
Read how each page was found
The tag on each card says how the page was found. The three are not equally strong:
- RANKING WITHOUT A PAGE: a search Google already shows one of your posts for, at least 150 times in the last 28 days, though the post ranks below the first page and barely mentions it. The demand is proven. This needs Search Console.
- NO PAGE COVERS THIS: a topic of three or more posts with no main guide. Each answers part of the subject and none answers it whole.
- TOPIC NEEDS MORE POSTS: a topic of two posts. One more page would tie them together.
The figure on the right, CLICKS / MO EST., is an estimate from the last 28 days of Search Console: the extra clicks a page at about position eight would get over where your posts sit now. With no search data for those posts it says NO SEARCH DATA.
Open the brief
On Studio and Agency, press Open the brief. The first time, Silotree reads the posts around the subject and writes it; after that the same brief opens straight away. It has two halves, and says which is which:
- On the left, written by a model from your post titles and searches: a working title, why the page is worth writing, and six to nine sections under WHAT IT HAS TO COVER TO BE THE ANSWER. A section one of your posts already answers is tagged YOU HAVE THIS, which Silotree works out by matching your titles, not by asking the model: link to that post rather than write it again.
- On the right, measured: THE NUMBERS BEHIND IT and, where there are some, QUERIES IT SHOULD PICK UP, with where your posts rank for each today.
Press Copy brief to copy all of it as text you can paste into a new post or send to a writer. Silotree doesn’t write the page for you.
Reserve the links while you write
If you are going to write it, press Reserve the links. The posts the brief lists are held: while the page is reserved, Silotree stops suggesting links from them to other posts on the same topic, in Links → To add, the weekly email and the editor sidebar. That keeps them free to link to the new page instead of the second-best one. Links to posts on other topics are still suggested.
The card is shaded and says RESERVED · 4 LINKS HELD, with how many posts are held. The hold lasts until you release it. Nothing on your site changes.
Publish it, then release the links
Write the page in WordPress and publish it. Silotree keeps the links held until you open the brief and press Release the links, so press it once the page is live: the held links come straight back, and the next scan reads the new page and suggests links to it in Links → To add.
If the page was the missing main guide of a topic, the scan can make it the guide, and the card leaves this screen.
What you should see
The new page is published, the posts around it can link to it, and the topic it belongs to has a page covering it whole. When nothing is missing, the screen says Nothing to write.
If it doesn’t work
- The button says Briefs on Studio
Briefs are on Studio and Agency. On Solo and during the trial you see every finding and its figures, but not the brief; the button opens the plan change. For a topic with no main guide, Create the main guide on the Topics screen works on Solo and during the trial too.
- The brief says the outline was derived from your page titles
The model could not be used, for example because the site reached its monthly AI budget, so the outline was built from your own post titles instead. It is plainer, and the figures on the right are the same.
- I see a sample instead of a list
Topics are built on paid plans and during the trial. On the free plan the two kinds of finding that come from topics can’t appear, and when there is nothing else to list the screen shows a sample of your topics and the plan that builds them.
- Links from the held posts are still suggested
Only links to posts on the same topic are held. A search found on a post that is in no topic shows No topic yet beside its tag: there is no topic to keep links out of, so reserving it holds nothing, and the card says RESERVED with no count of held links.
Questions
Does Silotree write the page?
No. The brief says which page is missing, what it has to cover and which of your posts will link to it. The working title and outline are written by a model for you to rewrite; the writing is yours.
How is a brief different from Create the main guide?
Create the main guide, on the Topics screen, saves a WordPress draft that outlines a missing main guide from the topic’s own posts, with a link to each, on every paid plan. The brief, on Studio and Agency, is a model-written outline with the measured figures and searches beside it, for any of the three kinds of missing page, and it can hold links for the page while you write. A topic with no main guide can use either.
Which plans have it?
The list is on every paid plan and during the trial. Briefs, Copy brief and Reserve the links are on Studio and Agency; on Solo and the trial the button reads Briefs on Studio.
Does a reservation end by itself?
No. The links stay held until you press Release the links in the brief, so press it once the page is published.
