Fix Search Console when it won’t connect
Connecting Search Console is a round trip to Google and back. When it fails, Silotree says why on the page you return to. These are the messages you can see, and what fixes each.
Steps
Read the message you were sent back with
When Google sends you back, Silotree shows any problem on Settings → Connections or on the Search Console step of Getting started. Match the message under If it doesn’t work.
Check the Google account has access to the property
Open Search Console signed in as the Google account you chose. Your site must be listed there, as a Domain property or a URL property. If it isn’t, use the account that owns it, or ask its owner to add you as a user.
Disconnect and connect again
In Settings → Connections, press Disconnect Search Console, then Yes, disconnect Search Console. Then press Connect Search Console and choose the right Google account. Figures already collected are kept.
Check the property Silotree uses
Which Search Console property shows the property in use. Silotree picks the best match — Domain property first, then the
https://address, thenwww— and, if it can’t list your properties, assumes the Domain property. If that’s wrong, type the property exactly as Search Console shows it (for examplesc-domain:yoursite.comorhttps://www.yoursite.com/) and press Save property.
What you should see
Settings shows Search Console connected with the right property, and data arrives with the next scan — see connect Search Console.
If it doesn’t work
- “Google was not connected”
You declined or closed Google’s screen. Connect again and press Allow.
- “That connection attempt has expired or was not started here”
The round trip took too long, or began in another browser. Start again from Settings in this browser.
- “Google did not return a refresh token”
Google remembered an earlier grant. Open your Google account’s third-party connections, remove Silotree’s access, then connect again.
- “Google refused the exchange” or “Google did not send back what we expected”
Usually a one-off. Wait a minute and connect again.
- Connected, but Results says there is no data
Data arrives with the next scan after connecting. If a scan has run since, the property is probably wrong (step 4), or the Google account lost access to it — reconnect with an account that has access.
- “Search Console cannot be connected on this Silotree yet”
Google sign-in isn’t set up on this installation. Everything else works without it. Tell us if you see this on silotree.io.
Once it works, see what the data shows in Results and the impact number.
