Pair the plugin with your Silotree account, or pair it again
Pairing lets Silotree write the links you approve into this site. It takes one button and a confirmation: you sign in to Silotree, confirm the site, and land back in Silotree with it connected. There is no key to copy unless you need one.
- The plugin installed and active — see install and update the plugin.
- An administrator login to WordPress, and your site served over https.
- Room on your plan for the site: the free plan and Solo cover one site each.
Steps
Open Settings → Silotree in WordPress as an administrator
In WordPress go to Settings → Silotree. The status chip at the top says Not connected or Connected.
Press Connect to Silotree
Press Connect to Silotree. Silotree opens in the same tab. If you are signed out, sign in or create an account first; you are brought back afterwards.
Sign in and confirm the site in Silotree
Silotree shows Signed in as your email and asks Connect yoursite.com to Silotree? Press Connect yoursite.com. Silotree checks with your site that the plugin holds the new key, then attaches the site to your account and opens it. Pressing Cancel returns you to WordPress with nothing connected.
The connection link is good for fifteen minutes; if you leave it longer, start again from Settings → Silotree.
Check the connection
Back on Settings → Silotree, press Check connection. It should say Silotree answered, and recognises this site.
To re-pair, press Connect again
Pair again after moving the site to a new address, after restoring a backup, or when a message says Silotree does not recognise the site. Press Connect again on Settings → Silotree and confirm in Silotree as before. The new key replaces the old one.
What you should see
Settings → Silotree shows Connected to Silotree since a date, and the site appears in your Silotree account. Links you approve can now be written — see write and undo batches.
If it doesn’t work
- “Only an administrator can connect this site to Silotree”
Sign in to WordPress as an administrator and press the button again.
- “That site is already connected to another Silotree account”
Ask the owner of that account to disconnect the site in their Settings, or contact support.
- “Your plan has no room for another site”
Upgrade, or disconnect a site you have finished with — see upgrade or change your plan.
- “That site address will not do”
The site must use its own
https://address. Switch WordPress to https under Settings → General (both addresses), then connect again.- Your browser can’t open Silotree from the site
Some locked-down admin setups block the round trip. Open Connect with a key instead on Settings → Silotree, copy the key, and paste it into Connect with a site key instead on the WordPress step in Silotree, with your WordPress address.
- “Silotree could not reach this site to confirm the connection”, or any other error
See the plugin can’t reach Silotree for every message and its fix.
From Silotree, press Disconnect on the WordPress card in Settings → Connections, then Yes, disconnect WordPress: the site and its findings stay, but nothing more is written. From WordPress, press Regenerate key under Connect with a key instead: the old key stops working at once. To remove the site from your account altogether, use Disconnect site in Silotree’s Settings → Danger zone.
Questions
How do I disconnect the plugin from Silotree?
In Silotree, press Disconnect on the WordPress card in Settings → Connections and confirm: the site and its findings stay, but nothing more is written. Or, in WordPress, press Regenerate key under “Connect with a key instead” on Settings → Silotree: the old key stops working at once. To remove the site from your account altogether, use Disconnect site in Settings → Danger zone.
Which WordPress user does Silotree write as?
The administrator who connected the site. You can change it on Settings → Silotree under “Who Silotree acts as”, to anyone who can edit other people’s posts. Every change is still saved as a normal revision.
My site moved to a new domain. What do I do?
Press Connect again on Settings → Silotree. The plugin signs every request with the site’s current address, so after a move Silotree no longer recognises it until it is connected again.
