Find out why a link didn’t land or a post was skipped
Silotree refuses a link rather than guess. Every refusal comes with a reason, shown next to the link after you write a batch. Find yours below, with the fix.
Steps
Read the reason next to the link
After a write, the bar on Links to add says how many links could not be added and gives the first reason; on Getting started each refused link has its reason underneath. In WordPress, the keyword rules and Undo screens list each post that was skipped, with why. A refusal always means that post was left exactly as it was.
Find the reason below and fix the cause
The messages are below, under If it doesn’t work, grouped by cause. Most need nothing from you: the post changed, and the next scan suggests the link again if it still fits.
Approve the link again, or write it by hand
A link refused because of the post as it stands is set aside, so it isn’t retried every time you write. Once you have fixed the cause, approve it again when it comes back in Links to add, or add it by hand in WordPress. A link skipped because someone had the post open stays approved and is written next time.
Clear your page cache if the link is written but not showing
If the result says the link was written but the live page doesn’t show it, your site’s page cache is serving an older copy. Clear the cache in your caching plugin or host, or wait for it to expire. The post in the WordPress editor shows the link at once.
What you should see
You know why the link wasn’t written, and either the cause is fixed and the link is written on the next try, or you have added it by hand.
If it doesn’t work
- “This post is built with Elementor, which Silotree will not edit”
Page builders — Elementor, Divi, Beaver Builder, Bricks, Oxygen, WPBakery, Avada, Thrive Architect — store a post in their own format. Add the link by hand in the builder. See what the plugin will and won’t edit.
- “The post has changed since we read it”, “does not appear in this post”, or “has been edited since the suggestion was made”
Someone edited the post after the scan and the words moved or went. Nothing to do: the next scan suggests the link again if it still fits.
- “appears 3 times in this post, so it is not clear which one to link”
Silotree won’t guess which one you meant. Use Change words on the card to pick a phrase that appears once, or add it by hand.
- “Those words run across formatting that a link cannot wrap cleanly”
The words are partly bold, in a heading or inside another link. Pick other words with Change words.
- “Sam is editing this post right now, so it was skipped”
WordPress shows the post as open in the editor. Once they close it, write again; the link stays approved.
- “That post already has 6 Silotree links, which is the limit”
No post gets more than six links from Silotree, so none reads as a list of links. Undo an older batch in that post if this link matters more.
- “This post already links to that page”
A second link to the same page from one post adds nothing. Skip it.
- “is on your never-link list”
The post, the target or the words are excluded. Change the never-link list if that’s not what you want.
- “Revisions are turned off on this site”
Silotree won’t edit a post it can’t put back. Remove the line that sets
WP_POST_REVISIONStofalseor0inwp-config.php, or set it to a number such as5, then write again.- “That post is in the trash” or “That post does not exist”
The post was trashed or deleted after the scan. Skip the link.
- “on posts we could not match yet”
WordPress hasn’t told Silotree which of its posts is which. Open Settings → Silotree in your WordPress admin once — it matches your posts within a minute — then write again.
- “You cannot edit that post” or “WordPress would not let the plugin edit this post”
The WordPress user Silotree acts as can’t edit that post. Choose an administrator under Who Silotree acts as on Settings → Silotree, and check the plugin is active and up to date — see pair and re-pair the plugin.
- “wait for Solo — your free links are used”
The free plan’s 10 written links are used. The approved links are kept — see plans and limits.
- Nothing was written at all
The whole write failed, usually because Silotree couldn’t reach your site. See the plugin can’t reach Silotree.
Questions
The batch says written but I can’t see the link.
If your site uses a page cache, the published page can take a few minutes to show the change, or until the cache is cleared. Open the post in the editor to see the link at once.
