Send a client report
The client report is what a freelancer or an agency sends the owner of a site: what was found, the links added and fixed, and how the linked posts did in Google, for a period you choose. Every figure comes from the site’s own data.
- The site on Studio or Agency, see plans and limits. On other plans the screen says what the report holds and which plan has it.
- For the Google figures, Search Console connected, see connect Search Console. Without it the rest of the report still works, and that section says it isn’t connected.
Steps
Open the client report
Open Results and press Client report, or open Settings → Client reports and press Open the client report.
Choose the period
Under Period, choose Last 30 days (the default), Last month for the whole previous calendar month, or Custom dates with a From and To of up to 120 days. The report redraws for that period.
It has five parts:
- At the top: links added (and how many a scan has confirmed in place), broken links fixed, posts with no links in, and clicks to the linked posts.
- Before and after: posts with no links in, and links between posts, at the start and end of the period. If the site was first scanned during the period, “before” is that first scan.
- Where the site stands: pages read, posts with no links in, and broken and redirected links, at the latest scan.
- Links added: the links themselves, each with the post it is in, the words and the post it points to.
- Google search, for the posts that got links: their clicks and Google views in the period against the same number of days before, from the site’s own Search Console.
Download the PDF, or print it
Press Download PDF at the top of the screen for a file to attach to an email, or Print to print it from the browser.
On Agency, put your own name on it
On Agency, fill in Your name on the report: Agency or business name, a logo (a PNG or JPEG), an Accent colour, and optionally Prepared by and Contact. Tick Leave Silotree off the report entirely to remove Silotree’s name from the page, the PDF and shared links. Press Save branding: it is used on every client report on your account. On Studio, the report carries Silotree’s name.
What you should see
Your client has the report as a PDF or a link, with every figure taken from the site’s own data: links, pages and fixes from Silotree’s scans, clicks and Google views from Search Console.
If it doesn’t work
- “This site already has 20 live links”
Revoke a link you no longer need, then make the new one.
- “The logo has to be a PNG or a JPEG”
Save the logo as a PNG or a JPEG and choose it again.
- My client says the link doesn’t work
It has expired or been revoked. Make a new one: links you can no longer use are counted under the list.
- The Google section is empty
It says why: Search Console isn’t connected, no posts got links in the period, or Google has no data for the period yet. Google’s figures arrive a few days after the day they cover.
The report says what happened to the posts that got links. It doesn’t claim the links caused it, the same way Results doesn’t.
Questions
Which plans have client reports?
Studio and Agency. On Agency the report carries your own name, logo and colour, and Silotree can be left off it entirely. The free trial is Solo, so it does not include them.
Does my client need an account to open the link?
No. The link opens the report in a browser, read-only, with a button for the PDF. It shows the period it was made for, not whatever the last 30 days are on the day it is opened.
Where do the figures come from?
Links, pages and fixes come from Silotree’s own scans and records; clicks and Google views from the site’s Search Console. Nothing is estimated or projected. A section with nothing to show says so instead of showing a zero.
